APSA Conference 2011: Crisis, Uncertainty and Democracy

Next week the School of Politics and International Relations will host the 2011 APSA Conference.
The theme of the conference is Crisis, Uncertainty and Democracy. The theme builds on the current situation in Australian politics as well as world affairs such as the Arab Springs.
Professor Donald Emmerson, will give a keynote speech on Black Swans, Fat Tails and the Futures of Political Science. Professor Emmerson is Director of the Southeast Asia Forum (SEAF) at Shorenstein APARC (Stanford), a senior fellow at FSI, and an affiliated scholar with the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law and the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies.
The President of APSA, Professor Katharine Gelber will deliver her presidential address on Generational Challenges in Australian Political Science.
Papers will be presented on topics covering Comparative Politics and Development; Australian Politics and Governance; Environmental Politics; Ethnicity ‘race’ and religion; Gender Politics and sexuality; International relations and international political economy; media, culture and communication; migration and refugees; and political and social theory.
